The Smithy

The Smithy is located at the site of the last blacksmith shop in the town of New Preston, CT. The shop closed in 1947, and remained as it was until 2006. Staying within the exact dimensions of the existing building, the structure was rebuilt, using vintage materials and local craftsmen. The name was applied in keeping with the original building’s heritage.

The Smithy opened in May 2007, to serve the purpose of:

• Creating an awareness of local agricultural and craft capabilities
• Establishing a relationship between the producer and the customer
• Providing fresh, high-quality, locally grown foodstuffs to the area, with an emphasis on organic, when possible
• Celebrating community
