Smoothies
A great way to start the day, especially when it's hot outside, and fresh berries are available. This recipe makes a generous 8 ounce serving, but if you add a bit more fruit, a tad more honey, or a splash of orange juice, you will need a bigger glass. Go ahead, experiment, and make it yours!
1/2 cup plain low-fat or non-fat yogurt
1 Teaspoon local honey
1/2 cup berries*
Slice up some banana, maybe a few chunks of pineapple, or throw in some mango if there is some sitting in your refrigerator. Blend the ingredients together until combined. * Adding frozen berries makes the smoothie shake-like, and extra delightful.
Remember that there are no rules here. You can substitute any flavor yogurt that you like, and any fruit that you prefer. If you pick berries, try to find a local, organic grower. Use the berries fresh, and freeze some, so that you will always have some on hand.
Enjoy!
